YACHTING CHAMPIONSHIP
Sir, —In your report of the first race in the above contest you mention that "it must be remembered that the Sydney crews were sailing on the Wai'temata in heavier weather than that to which they are aecustomed in their home waters." While we must give every credit to the visiting crews for their splendid handling of their craft, at the same time we must be careful not to belittle the sterling performance of our own boats in finishing in the first three places. I might say I myself have done considerable yachting, both on Sydney and Waitemata Harbours, and while I have frequently seen the sea too rough for some of the Sydney ferry steamers to adhere to their time-tables, I do not consider that our beloved Waitemata can get worked up to a more angrv mood than that. L. McKetney. *
