NEW BRIDGE NEEDED
ROUTE TO SCENIC DRIVE The urgent need for a new bridge across the creek at Valley Road, Glen Eden, and a widening of the road in, thi&ti vicinity was stressed by a deputation from the Glen Eden Town Board, which mot the Minister of Publio Works, the Hon. K. Seniple, on Thursday. The Minister was received by Captain A. G. Hackett, chairman of the board, and the clerk, Air. W. Waters. Captain Hackett said a new bridge was necessary, as the volume of traffic had increased. It was a popular route to the Waitakere Scenic Drive and was a bus route. During the flood last year the water was over the hand-rail, which stood about four feet above the road.
The Minister was shown a plan of the new bridge and the proposed widening of the road. A culvert would also be" required about three-quarters of a mile further along the road. The estimated cost of the bridge was £I7OO and that of the culvert, £6OO. Mr. Semple said the project was a desirable one and it remained only a matter of finance. If the committee made application for a pound-for-poimd subsidy in the estimates lor the following year he would give it liis favourable consideration.
