TREAT FOR ORPHANS
PICNIC AT MOTUIHI POLICE PROVIDE OUTING About 400 orphan children are to be given a treat on Monday when they will be taken for a picnic to Motuihi by the Auckland Police Picnic Club. This is..tho first time that the police have provided such an outing for the children and preparations for the event have been in progress for several weeks.
The room of the secretary of the picnic club, Constable T. J. Hughes, at the police barracks, yesterday resembled a toy shop at Christmas time and nearly all the available space was occupied with small toys, bags ,of sweets, and other articles to serve as prizes in the sports eVents, and gifts for the children. The children are from various homes in Auckland and will embark on the steamer Duchess, which is due to leave Auckland at 10 o'clock on Monday morning. Special transport arrangements have, been made to convey the children to the wharves, and they will travel by tram, bus and ferry. A full programme of sports will be carried out at Motuihi and other entertainment will include a display of conjuring by a member of tjie police force.
