HEAVY GUN FIRING
Sir, —Is it essential that heavy gun practice should bo carried out in tho midst of a thickly r populated area? The firing of these guns from the North Head during this week is causing much annoyance and inconvenience to the inhabitants of Devonport in general and of Cheltenham in particular. Surely there are hundreds of vacant acres along the gulf coast, within easy reach of Auckland, from which tho guns could bo equally well trained on Rangitoto ? Why must it be considered necessary to carry out these exercises and cause such distracting disturbances within a fully-settled district? Distracted Devonport.
