CLOTHING ABLAZE
WOMAN RUNS INTO STREEi BURNS AND SEVERE SHOCK MEN SMOTHER THE FLAMES 1 BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] NEW PLYMOUTH. Thursday Her clothing aflame, a woman caused a sensation at Hawera this morning when she ran screaming along the main street. The flames were smothered by two shopkeepers with their hands Mrs. C. E. Chambers, aged 33, proprietress of a shop near High Street the main thoroughfare, was lighting a fire in a stove in the premises behind her shop when a sudden gust of wind blew the flames back on to her. Her dress caught fire and she rushed into the street in a panic. By the time she had reached High Street her clothine was burning freely and the woman was in a state of collapse.
Mr. H. Ravage, proprietor ot a shop near by, ran into the street when h#> heard the screams and with Mr. S Cleaver stopped the woman and smothered the flames. Both men received burns on the hands. Mrs. Chambers was burned principally on the thighs. She suffered severely from shock.
