PROBATION FOR YEAR

CASE AGAINST WOMAN THEFT OF CAMERA DENIED A domestic, Vera Mary Moss, aged 30 (Mr. Hall Skclton), pleaded not guilty in the Police Court, before Mr. C. 11. Orr Walker, S.M., yesterday to a charge of stealing a camera, valued at £2, on February 6. Mr. Skelton said that accused and another woman mot some . American tourists and were invited to have cocktails at a hotel in the city, after which they all went to the liner on which the tourists were travelling. Accused apparently got hopelessly intoxicated. When she woke up the next morning she saw a camera on her dressing table and wondered how she had come by it. She came from a respectable family, counsel added, and was a decent young woman. The men were really to blame for this episode. "It would appear that this young woman should be given a check from the life she has been leading," said Detective-Sergeant A. G. McHugh.

Accused was admitted to 12 months' probation, and was ordered to refrain from taking liquor.
