PRIVATE PRACTITIONERS CLAIM FOR PREFERENCE £by telegraph—PßESS association] DUNEDIN, Thursday A decision to approach the' Government and local bodies with a . view to arranging that their architectural work should bo done by registered architects in private practice, was made at the annual conference of the New Zealand Institute of Architects. Three remits on the subject, two from Canterbury and one from Auckland, were 'introduced for discussion.
It was stated by Mr. G. D. Griffiths, who moved the first of the Canterbury remits, that the matter was not a new one, but that it was considered they should "battle on" in an endeavour" to obtain some satisfaction. The three remits were discussed at the same time, being finally embodied in one resolution, which was carried, as follows: — . "That the council take immediate steps to approach tho Government and local bodies in regard to architectural work, with a view to arranging that such work be carried out by registered architects in private practice, and, when circumstances warrant it, all major work to be competed for by competition by registered members of the New Zealand Instituto of Architects under the institute's regulations governing architectural competitions."
