JUMP OF 200 FEET
CANADIAN LUMBERJACK VANCOUVER HARBOUR BRIDGE [from our own VANCOUVER, Jan. 20 In a Vancouver hospital Gordon Erickson, 31-year-old lumberjack, recovered quickly from bruises he suffered in a 200 ft. jump from the parapet of the towering Lion's Gate bridge that spans Vancouver harbour. Erickson's jump was exactly twice that claimed for the American, Steve Brodie, whose fabled leap from the :100ft. Brooklyn Bridge to the East River became a legend of New York city. A colourful • figure of 60 years ago, Brodio opened a saloon on the strength of his feat and did a roaring trade, though many claimed he had perpetrated a carefullv-stagcd hoax. Erickson said he made his dive for fun, but would not do it again for many thousand dollars. Ho is estimated to have hit the nearly freezing water at a speed of 75 miles an hour.
