EARS CUT OFF
CHINESE AT SINGAPORE POPULAR WAY OF REVENGE [from our own* correspondent] SINGAPORE, Feb. 2 Cutting off ears as a means of revenge or reprisal is still popular among the'ciiinese. Since the boycott of Japaneso by Singapore Chinese several instances'of cutting off ears have occurred, the victims being supposed unpatriotic Chinese. The latest victim is a Chinese tongkarig (junk) builder, who was assaulted by a party of compatriots in daylight. He had an car cut completely off close to the head. His assailants alleged that lie was building four junks for Japanese
On the previous night the junks had been damaged by having their keels sawn through. They were still under construction, about a quarter completed. The matter was reported to the police by an Indian, who claimed that the junks were being built for him.
