NOVEMBER RETURN EXPORTS UP £277,000 __________ \ IMPORTS LOWER BY £164,000 FALL FOR PRODUCTION SEASON Exports during November were £277,000 greater in value than in the corresponding month last year, according to the preliminary return, of overseas trade for the month, which has been issued by the Customs Department in Wellington. The figure this year is the highest for any November since 19&3. Imports have decreased by £164,000, compared with the level in November last year, but with that exception, are the highest for any similar month since 1933. The fall, £7,648,000, still leaves the total over £2,000,000 greater than for the first 11 months of 1936, and even more substantially higher than in any proceding year up to, and including, 1933. Though imports are lower by £895,000 than for the period up to November last year, they remain over £10,000.000 higher than for the same portion of 1936. Exports are less in value by £2,855.000, while the imports have fallen by £2.276,000. The excess of imports, at £6.207,000, is the highest for the period during the past five years, and stands in strong contrast to the position in 1933, when there was an excess of exports amounting to £2,793.000.
