SHOP WINDOW BROKEN WELLINGTON JEWELLERS WATCHES AND RINGS STOLEN [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN WELLINGTON, "Wednesday Watches and rings of a value not yet ascertained were stolen by a thief or thieves who smashed a show window in the premises at J. B. Lauchlan, Limited, watchmakers and jewellers, in Willis Street, at about 3 a.m. to-day. The window that was broken was recessed from the footpath and the thief would not be readily visible to people further down the street.
It is believed that the smashing of the window must have taken place when a watgrcart or heavy vehicle was passing, as it was not heard by policemen in the vicinity. The hole in the window was about 2ft. by Ift. in area and would afford ample space for the removal of jewellery.
Air. Lauchfym also conducts other jewellery businesses in the city and he has been unfortunate in that his premises have repeatedly suffered through this kind of theft over the last two years. Earlier this year his Woodward Street shop was entered, thieves climbing through a -window at the top of the firo escape. Ou that occasion money, watches, rings and cigarette cases were stolen.
