THIRD BATTLESHIP
BUILDING IN GERMANY DETAILS OF THE GUNS GROWING POWER OF FLEET (Received December 5, 6.10 p.m.) LONDON, Dec. 4 Germany is building a third battleship of 35,000 tons, says the Berlin correspondent of the Manchester Guardian. She will have eight 15-inch and 12 6-inch guns.
The other two of Germany's 35,000ton battleships were laid-down in 1936 and early in 1937 respectively, the first at the yards of Blohm and Voss at Hamburg, and the second at Wilhelmshaven. These two vessels were designed for eight 15-inch and 12 5.9inch guns. The third battleship was to be laid down at Kiel. The Scharnhorst and Gneisenau, two battleships of 26,000 tons, laid down in 1936, each mounting nine 11-inch and 12 0._9-inch guns, are nearing completion, if not actually completed. All five of these battleships have a designed speed of 30 knots, and with the three so-railed "pocket" battleships Deutschland, Admiral Scheer and Admiral Graf Spee, each mounting six 11-inch guns and of 26 knots speed, Germany will have a formidable surface fleet.
