NEW ROWING EIGHT
AUCKLAND CLUB'S PURCHASE SHELL ARRIVED FROM SYDNEY Believed to ho the first new eight-oared boat overseas by any club in Auckland and probably in New Zealand, a new best-and-best racing shell, imported by the Auckland Rowing. Club, arrived from Sydney by the Wanganellii yesterday. Built by Mr. li. Green, of A.bhotsford, tbe skiff will be a valuable addition to the local fleet of eightoureil boats The New Zealand Amateur Rowing Association imported several now eights some years ago and loaned them to the provincial associations, but the clubs up to the present have been content with second-hand boats. The Auckland club has been promised assistance by their old members and supporters in purchasing this boat, which cost nearly i'2oo. Mr. Green has a reputation among leading builders in Australia and has supplied boats to Canada, the United States and South Africa. The very latest constructional ideas have been incorporated in the shell and full advantage was taken of the developments in English and overseas boatbuilding.
