NAZIS AND CATHOLICS

THREATENED REPRISALS HOSTILITY TO CARDINAL LONDON, Oct. 14 The reprisals threatened against Catholics by Herr Buerckel include the instant abolition of all Catholic seminaries, says a message from Vienna. As the background of the new policy Herr Buerckel revealed that on October 4 clerical politicians had resolved on the demonstration, held last week-end. in support of their faith, at which they sang Schuschnigg songs and shrieked in chorus: "Christ is our Fuehrer." It was matchless impertinence to introduce Christ's name into politics against the Fuehrer. "When did Herr Hitler ever dream of challenging the Son of God?" Herr Buerckel asked. "When did the Son of God take a terrestrial partner ? Jjb was merely an attempt to raree the question of Herr Hitler or Christ, whereas the ileal question is Herr Hitler or the clerical clique." After a meeting 100,000 Nazis marched past Cardinal Innitzer's palace displaying anti-clerical banners, the slogans* including advocacy of the hanging of the Cardinal, says the Vienna correspondent of the Times.
