AMERICAN INTERESTS PROTECTION PROMISED RIGHTS UNDER MANDATE POSSIBILITY OF CHANGES (Received October 16, 5.5 p.m.) "WASHINGTON, Oct. 15 After receiving an influential American-Jewish delegation, the Secretary of State, Mr. Cordell Hull, promised to take all necessary measures for the protection of American rights and interests in Palestine. He added that the American Government expected to have the opportunity to submit its views to the British Government in any changes affecting American rights, which might be proposed in the Palestine mandate. Mr. Hull pointed out that these rights were defined by the AmericanBritish Mandate Convention, of December 3, 1924. While the United States had no power to prevent modification of the terms of the mandate, the Government could decline to recognise the validity of the application to American interests of any modifications without its assent. He added that he had received thousands of telegrams protesting against the reported British plan to stop Jewish immigration to Palestine. Sixty four thousand telegrams have arrived at Whit© Houso urging the Government to Britain to secure an open door in Palestine for homeless European Jews. American Jews in Palestine exceed 8000 and American capital invested there exceeds £10,000,000.
