LAWRENCE TIBBETT
SECOND CONCERT TO-NIGHT The' famotis baritone Lawrence Tibbett, who was given such a wonderful reception on Tuesday night when he made his first appearance on tho Auckland concert platform, will give his second concert in the Town Hall to-night at eight o'clock. Tibbctt is a master of "contrast in the selection of his programmes. His items vary from tho Simple ballad to the depths of operatic tragedy, from the bare grjmness of Moussorgsky to tho lilting music of the Schubert lieder. He has to 'be an artist of tremendous versatility to handle thern all. Everywhere, lie has drawn crowded houses, but it needs something more than his splendid voice to attract such great audiences. The secret of his popularity lies in his great sense of drama, his sensitive reaction to his audicnco, and his showmanship, which, while alwavs effective, never goes beyond the bounds of good taste. The programme to-night includes operatic cxccrpts, songs and ballads, while in response to requests "Do Glory Road" will also be included. The farewell concert will be given on Saturday night.
