Sept. 8 Seventeen people were killed and 20 were injured when a train crashed into a lorry carrying petrol from France to Spain, states a message from Perpignan, in the Pyrenees. The explosion set fire to the train, and the passengers became panicstricken. The flames spread to five near by buildings and the whole locality was quickly turned into a furnace.

Firemen worked all night long, but were unable to approach where the flames were fiercest. It is feared there may be further casualties.
