GOALS FROM PENALTIES

DEFENCE SEVERELY TESTED [by telkguaph—own correspondent} GISBORNE. Monday Auckland made a great fight in defence against Eastern in the first spell, which ended without a score, but the defence crumpled in the second half when play was mostly in Auckland's territory. Miss Askew and Miss Squires in the halfback line, put up a great performance in the first spell, Miss Askew's stickwork being particularly clean. Miss Gubb was a splendid fullback, disorganising tho Eastern attack, but in the second spell Auckland played a purely defensive game and tho forwards could not get going. Miss Gawler was well marked after her five goals on Saturday. Two of Eastern's goals were the result of penally bullies after Miss Wyllie 'fell in the goal-mouth under the charging Eastern forwards. Miss Wyllie played a :|,>lendid game throughout and in the second spell was one of the hardest worked of her team. ■ . _ _
