DOMINION UNIVERSITIES CONTEST AGAINST WAIKATO TO-DAY'S MATCH AT HAMILTON For the first time since 1933 a New Zealand Universities Rugby fifteen will play a match in the Dominion to-day, the contest being against the Waikato representative team at Rugby Park, Hamilton. The occasion five years ago was against the touring Australian Universities side. The encounter this afternoon will be the first engaged in by a New Zealand Universities combination with a provincial or any other Dominion selection.

University Rugby camo into its own in 1928, when university teams won tho local championships in the four metropolitan areas of New Zealand. The University inter-island game next year will be played at Cliristchurch, and it is hoped to arrange matches for the New Zealand Universities side against Canterbury and Otago. University players arc well known for their bright exhibitions of football, and to-day's match should bo no exception. The side arrived in Hamilton yesterday, and tho selection to take tho field is as follows :

ROLLER MILLS SHIELD PRIMARY SCHOOLS' TOURNEY FIRST SERIES OF GAMES The annual provincial primary schools' Rugby football tournament for the Roller Mills Shield was commenced at the Show Grounds yesterday afternoon, four matches being played in two sections. The tournament will be continued daily, except Thursday, and the final between the winner of each section will bo contested on Friday afternoon. Games wero played on heavy grounds, with the result that there was much forward play. The most exciting match was that between Auckland Central and North Auckland, which resulted in a> draw, 3-all. Auckland East and Hamilton also had a keen encounter, tho former being successful by 5 points to nil. The country boys played creditably, being particularly stiong in tlu forwards. TRAMWAYS' TOURNEY FIRST MATCHES TO-DAY There was a good attendance at the' Auckland Transport Board's clubroonis yesterday to extend a' welcome to the visiting Tramway Kughy teams from Wellington, Cliristchurch and Dunedin. who will take part in tho annual tournament for the Kohn Shield at Carlaw Park to-day and on Thursday. In welcoming the visitors, the Hon. F. E. Lark, deputy-chairman of the Transport Board, paid a tribute to the value of this trophy as a means of cementing the friendship between the tramway workers in the various centres. These views were also expressed by Messrs. J. McClintock, J. Sayegh and U. Nagle, members of the board. The good wishes of tho Auckland Rugby League were conveyed by Mr. E. J. Phelan, who expressed pleasure at the fact that a team from Dunedin would be competing, tho first sinco the inauguration of tho tournament 28 years ago. Messrs. R. McWilliams, manager, and D. Kelly, secretary, of the Wellington team, which holds the shield, replied on behalf of their club, while Mr. T. w. Smith replied on behalf of the Cliristchurch club. Mr. A. McGregor, tho Dunedin manager, also expressed his pleasure at the reception given his side. The To Puke Rugby Sub-union representatives beat the Whakatane representatives at Whakatane by nine points (o six. Whakalane was weakened by the loss of six Bay of Plenty representatives, who were playing at Gisborne, and the team was all at sea in the first half, when To Puke scored three tries, two by Graham and one by Wilson. Whakatane rallied well in the second half and J. Mate scored a try and Oswald kicked a penalty goal.
