EASTERN SUBURBS CLUB ASSISTING SCHOOL CHILDREN Continued success was experienced last season by tho Eastern Suburbs Amateur Swimming and Life-Saving Club, according to the report presented at the annual meeting, which was well attended. The club's finances were also strengthened. The membership remained steady, and it was stated that efforts would havo to be made to gain the fullest support of the Tamaki district as a whole, in order that the club might prevail upon the authorities to assist it in building the facilities necessary for carrying on its work. The club's policy was to endeavour to promote and encourage the education of all schoolchildren in its district in . tho art of swimming and life-saving. Coaching was difficult for the club owing to the fact that, unless a professional coach was engaged, it could not help tho schools as much as it desired. Its efforts to obtain the services of a professional wero unsuccessful, and difficulty was also experienced in providing coaching in life-saving.

The club was represented in New Zealand championships by P. E. Mathieson and M. Bell. The former won tho 100 yards and 400 metres senior backstroke titles, and Bell tho 75 yards junior boys' backstroke title in record time. Subsequently Bell lowered his record to r>Ss. Another member, Miss V. Simmonds, was third in the 100 yards intermediate girls' free-style championship of Auckland.

A delegation from the club waited on tho City Council requesting the building of a swimming pool at Gower's Point, St. Heliers. The committee, in addition, had collected data from several shire councils in Australia respecting the erection of rock and other types of baths. The financial statement showed a profit of about £6. Assets included approximately .Cl7O in cash, most of which is in a, trust fund established for the purpose of building a pool. Tho election of officers resulted as follows: — Patron, . Sayegh, who presided, oil the club's sound financial position, and also on its success in winning championship honours. Deference was made by Mr. Sayegh to the death of Mr. C. A.
