MARITIME DISPUTE
UNITED STATES TORTS CAMPAIGN AGAINST BRIDGES FEDERATION OF LABOUR MOVE (Received Auprust 2.3, 8.30 p.m.) NEW YORK, August 23 The maritime labour dispute threatens to assume greater magnitude, says a message from Atlantic City. Tho American Federation of Labour is organising a new department encompassing over 500,000 sailors, longshoremen, teamsters and radio operators engaged in the Pacific, Atlantic. Mexican Gulf and Great Lakes shipping.
The president of the federation, Mr. William Green, declared the department would fight to a finish against Mr. Harry Bridges and all the Committee of Industrial Organisation maritime affiliations. Tho move is the most ambitious ever undertaken by tho federation, and the strongest blow ever launched against Mr. Bridges. Mr. Green anticipates that numbers of C.1.0. members will desert to him as soon as the department is formed.
