A REPORTED OFFER CHAIRMAN GIVES DENIAL * MATCH WITH CANTERBURY Th ) contents of a press message from New Plymouth, stating that the Auckland Rugby League had made an offer to G. Ngaia, the Taranaki Rugby Union •• • representative, were given an emphatic denial by Mr. G. Grey Campbell, chairman of tho Auckland Rugby League, last evening. Neither the League officially, nor any of its officers, had mado any overtures to this player. Mr. Campbell reported tiiat arrangements for a game at Carlaw Park against tho ~ New Zealand touring team would not bo finalised until this evening. The request of the Canterbury League for a match against Auckland was given favourable consideration. The fixing of a date was deferred until arrangements had been finalised in regard to a match against the New Zealand touring team. The Bay of Plenty League wrote asking for further information regarding a match for the Waitangi Shield. The matter was referred to the Maori Board of Control for a report on the prospects of a visit to Taneatua. v A severe caution was administered to L. Cootes, a Ponsonby forward, who was ordered off in a senior game last Saturday. It was pointed out that, although a warning had been issued to all clubs, it was Cootes' first offence. The St. John Ambulance Brigade iwroto expressing appreciation of the excellent facilities provided in tho ambulance room at Carlaw Park. It was decided to donate two guineas toward the funds of the annual road race . controlled by the Auckland Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Cycling Association. E. 11.
