LIQUOR AFTER HOURS
HOTEL LICENSEE FINED
The licensee of the Captain Cook Hotel in Khyber Pass Road, Hugh Lynn, appeared before Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M., in the Police Court yesterday, charged with opening his premises and selling liquor after horrs to Ditlev Gothard Monrad, a farmer. Senior-Sergeant D. L. Calwell prosecuted, Mr. E. Wright appeared for Lynn, and Mr. Terry for Monrad. Pleas of not guilty were entered. Evidence was given by Sergeant JDoel, who said that at 8.10 p.m. on April 8 he and Constable Rowe saw a man ring the door bell of the hotel. He saw the two policemen and walked away. They went into the hotel, but everything seemed to be in order. They kept watch from a convenient vantagepoint, and saw the man return to the hotel and accept a parcel containing two bottles of beer from the licensee. When accosted, Monrad, the man concerned, said ho bought the beer from another hotel earlier in the evening. After hearing the evidence, counsel said the two defendants wished to plead guilty. Lynn was fined £5 and costs, and Monrad was fined £1 10s and costs.
