OFFER TO LOCAL BODIES > 1 » MR. WEBB AT TE KUITI [by telegraph—own correspondent] TE KUITI, Friday An offer to provide the full wages of the men and to arrange for them to be brought into this district to create assets of local and national value was made by the Minister of Mines, the Hon. P. C. Webb, when he met representatives of local bodies and the Public Works Department from the Waitomo electorate this morning*. Every local body represented, with the exception of the Waitomo Power Board, which employed only skilled labour, was anxious to participate in the scheme. Mr. Webb said the Government particularly wanted to encourage beautification. and the provision of swimming baths and recreation grounds. The need for metalling access roads, afforestation and land development was emphasised by Mr. Webb, who promised to provide the labour required for certain metalling in the Kawhia township. He also promised three . men to Te Kuitf School for ground improvement and beautification. Other requests were dealt with in an informal conference after the meeting.
SINGLE MEN'S CAMP
PREPARATIONS AT WAIHI [BT TELEGRAPH —OWN correspondknt] WAIHI. Friday Under the supervision of the Waihi borough engineer, _ a works camp to accommodate 20 single men has been completed. The men will be paid full award wages with a 40-hour week. Provision is also being made for the employment of 25 registered unemployed m the town. Work will commence both at Waihi Beach and in the town on Monday.
