SALEYARDS LEASE
POSITION AT TE AWAMUTU [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] TE AWAMUTU, Thursday The administration of tho municipal saleyards was discussed at a meeting of the Te Awamutu Borough Council when a letter was received from the Te Awamutu branch of the Farmers' Union requesting that the council make the facilities of the saleyards available to all stock firms.
The Mayor, Mr. G. Spinley, explained that three stock firms had been conducting weekly sales in the yards for a considerable number of years. About three years ago the council had made improvements to tho yards at a cost of £2300, and had leased the yards to tho firms concerned for five years at a rental of £6OO per annum. The lessees were prepared «to let other firms have the use of tho yards on any day but a Thursday, which was the lessees' regular sale day, said Mr. Spinley. "Tho lease may yet be proved to be invalid. I understand tho Auditor-Gen-eral is going to query its validity," Mr. Spinley added. Tho council decided to defer further consideration until tho Auditor-General's report was received.
