ROUTE AROUND LAKES
WHAKATANE-ROTORUA ROAD IMPROVEMENTS CARRIED OUT With over 100 men encamped on the picturesque shores of Lak'» Rotoma, rapid improvements are being made to the road between Whakatane and Rotorua at a point where it passes through somo of the most attractive tourist country in the Dominion. The winding road is bfeing rapidly transformed and the work undertaken by the Public Works Department should bo a .material factor in increasing the volume of motor traffic. Work is concentrated on the widening and re-alignment of the road, and to this end several difficult corners have been eliminated, high banks have been drastically cut back, and new cuttings made. On account of the winding nature of tho road, the route is shunned by a great many motorists, but when the improvements nre effected it is considered that many more tourists will avail themselves of the opportunity of viewing the magnificent scenery of Lake Tlotoiti and Lake Rotoma.
