PROBLEM FOR LEAGUE
ABYSSINIAN MEMBERSHIP PAYMENT OF ARREARS GENEVA, April 30 Haile Selassie has sent a cheque for about £454 in settlement of Abyssinia's arrears due to the League of Nations in the hope of forestalling an attempt to challenge Abyssinia's right to membership. The Secretariat has refrained from registering acceptance of the cheque pending a study of the situation. ITALIAN CONQUEST RULE OVER ABYSSINIA SOVIET OPPOSES RECOGNITION (Received M»y 1. 5.5 p.m.) MOSCOW, April 30 The newspaper Izvestia announces that the Soviet's delegate to the League Council has been instructed <to oppose any move for the recognition of Italian sovereignty over Abyssinia.
