PAINT SCORES

BONNY GAY UNPLACED FINE PERFORMANCE BYTOSH MUSS LU SUCCESSFUL AGAIN Benefited by his race on the first day, Racoline finished strongly to win the Onerahi Hack Handicap, for which lie was one of the outsiders of the field on both machines. Raceline and Chief Lap jumped out very smartly and when the field had settled down Chief Lap and High Star were together in front from Windcress, Raceline and Abbey Lass. Chief Lap and High Star came into the straight just ahead of Windcress, with an interval of five lengths to Raceline and Abbey Lass. Chief Lap was in command inside the distance but Raceline finished well on the outsido to beat him by half a length. Windcress battled on to be a fair third and Abbey Lass was fourth. Then followed Bright Idea and High Star, with the others badly benten. Raceline returned double figures. He was nicely bandied by R. J. Fearn, who rode him patiently, High 'Star had every chance but faded after going fast early. A Solid Performance The four-year-old Paint registered a solid performance to win the Junior Stakes, in which the each-way favourite Vaals Star missed a place. Yaldene broke through the tapes before the start and her rider was thrown heavily, having to be removed in the ambulance. As a result Valdene took no part in the race. There was some crowding in the first half-furlong when White Foam lost her rider and Rajanya reached tho front quickly. Paint and Pasture then ran to the lead and they made play into the straight from Rajanya, Brazilian, Tho Trimmer and Viraeious. Paint ran on well to score narrowly from Rajanya, who also finished strongly. Brazilian, who was squeezed back early, ran on gamely for third, and The Trimmer was fourth, followed by Viraeious, Love Parade and Master Appellant. Paint Avon well, although the crowding early atlected the chances of several liorses.

The each-way favourite Bonnv Gay missed a place in the Autumn Handicap, which Parquet won in good style. Tybalt began smartly and led for about three furlongs, when he gave way to Airam. Five furlongs from home Airain quickened the pace and she led into the straight from Parquet, who had moved up smartly, Tybalt and Bonny Gay. It looked as if Airam would win when she still led after passing the distance, but Parquet finished resolutely on the outside to defeat her narrowly. Tybalt was a close third and just beat Crooning, who was clear of Bonny Gay. Tho small field suited Parquet, who recorded one of her best efforts. Airam did well after being slightly behind at the start. Tybalt and Crooning ran fair races without doing quite as well as expected. Outsider Wins Hurdles The outsider Illimani brought off a great surprise when he scored in the Parua Bay Hurdles, paying over half a century on the win machine and double figures for a place. Teak made the early running after making spectacular leaps at the first two fences. Teak then began to hang and My Money went up on the inside to take the lead after going about six furlongs. My Money showeu the way into the straight to Teak, Illimani and Lucidus.; In the run from the last fence Illimani came strongly to win going away from My Money. Lucidus battled on to be a creditable third and Teak, who ran unkindly, was fourth. Illimani was well ridden by H. Stokes, who has just commenced riding over hurdles. Made less use'of in the early stages than on tho first day, tho top-weight Tosh scored a meritorious victory in the Flying Handicap. Tosh waited behind lnver and Bachelor King until reaching the straight and came home strongly to win by half a length from lnver, who stayed better than Bachelor King to beat him by a neck. Trilliarch, after being in the rear most of the way, was close up fourth. Tosh has performed consistently well and has developed into a fine sprinter. Bachelor King looked likely just after reaching the straight but failed to rue on. lnver weakened' just near the end. Trilliarch did not appear to be at his best, and may require freshening up. Chief Lap Victorious

Repeating the creditable form he revealed earlier iu the day in finishing second in the Onerahi Hack Handicap, Chief Lap scored decisively in the ltuutangata Handicap. Chief Lap assumed command before the field had gono far and was never afterward headed, eventully winning by two and a-half lengths. Enlightenment was in second position throughout but could not make any impression on the winner. High Delight battled on at the end to get third and Viracious, who was a long way back early, was fourth. The win favourite British Banner was sore and pulled up lame.

Having her third start at the meeting, Abbey Lass recorded a surprise in winning the Northern Hack Handicap. She was one of the least supported and paid double figures on the win machine. Haceline and Abbey Lass ran to the front quickly, Abbey Lass leading along the back from Itingshot, Lapidarian (who ran up quickly), Palmint and Collision. Abbey Lass showed the way into the straight to Lapidarian, itingshot and Palmint, and she stayed on solidly to score by three-quarters of a length front Itingshot, who challenged strongly over the last furlong. Prival, who was checked early, finished soundly for third, and Palmint was fourth ahead of Kaceline and Lapidarian. Abbey Lass performed solidly, but Prival appeared unlucky. Defeat of Land Girl Patiently ridden by C. G. Goulsbro, Miss Lu won the Kia Ora Handicap in good style. Land Girl attempted to win all the" way and she carried on tho running into the straight from . Shy, Miss Lu, Crooning and Tip Toes. Land Girl still led inside the distance, but Miss Lu came strongly on the outside to win by a neck from Crooning, who also finished well. Land Girl was a short head away third and Shy was fourth, followed, by Bonnv Gay and Tip Toes. Miss 'Lu was produced at the top of her form and, after having an excellent run, finished attractively. Crooning also ran on solidly to gain second. Land Girl faded only near the end. ELLERSLIE VISITORS ARRIVAL OF GLENOGIL The Great Northern Oaks candidate Glonogil, in the charge of F.
