PHYSICAL EDUCATION

LARGE MASSED DISPLAY STUDENT TEACHERS' WORK IMPRESSIVE EXHIBITION The massed display of physical education and folk dancing by some 5(30 students of the Teachers' Training College in the grounds of the college at Epsom on Saturday afternoon provided impressive evidence of the work which is being done in preparing future teachers to lead the children of the Dominion in the campaign for physical fitness. In the course of a short address, the chairman of the Auckland Education Board, Mr. T. U. Wells, expressed appreciation of the work of the college physical instructors, Mr. K. lieid and Miss M. Blackburne, who had organised the display. The college was a national training ground inasmuch as the teachers from there carried its influence evcti to remote parts of the country, added Mr. Wells. When in Wellington recently, he had strongly recommended to the Minister of Education, the Hon. P. Eraser, the building of a gymnasium at the College. The rhythmic movements of nearly COO young men and women clad in workmanlike white gymnasium dress made the folk dances, physical exercises and recreational tableaus a series of striking spectacles. During the display, selections and accompaniments were played by the band of the First Battalion of the Auckland .Regiment. The programme concluded with a demonstration of methods of swimming and life-saving instruction and a display of trick diving by the students.
