TE RAPA TRIALS

MISS CLIPPER PLEASES BRYCE STREET JUMPS WELL TRILLIARCH DISPLAYS DASH [BY TELECiUAPTI —OWN CORTtERT'ONDENT] HAMILTON, Thursday A polished exhibition over a round of the steeplechase country by Bryce Street was a feature of the work at Te Rapa this morning, when several useful trials were recorded by candidates for the Matamata meeting on Saturday. The best efforts on the flat were those of Trilliarch and Miss Clipper over six and fivo furlongs respectively. On the plough, where the majority of the work was done, v\bbey Lass covered three furlongs in 39 4-ss. Susan (F. Hain) finished in front of Pirate King (J. Winder), with Niehavo (Bootsma) several lengths away, at the end of five furlongs in 1.2 1-5. Prince Acre (J. Winder) held Kingcraft (F. Hain) safely after running half a mile in 50s. Best of the Morning The best effort of the morning was recorded by the improving Miss Clipper (J. Day),- who bgat Cometarium (A. Gilmer) by a length over five furlongs in 1.1 4-5. Miss Clipper did, her work well and has apparently benefited by her racing at Tauranga. Merial (J. Winder) strode over five furlongs in 1.5 1-5. She looks improved. Star Artist (A. Gilmer) ran six furlongs in 1.16 4-5.

Trilliarch was responsible for a solid effort in finishing clear of Tradesman at the end of six furlongs in 1.15 1-5 and running the last half-mile in 50 4-ss. Trilliarch ran disappointingly at Taurariga, but his effort this morning was pleasing. Latour's Last (R. D. O'Zanne) and Queen Lu (N. R. McKenzie) were associated over a round in 1.54.

Sen Acre (N. I?. McKenzie) was ahead of Seneta (W. Thomson) over half a mile in 50s, a useful effort. Lornncro (H. Long) was not bustled to run the final four of five furlongs in 51 l-ss. He looks all the better for recent racing. Prince Rangi Goes Well Prince Rangi (J. Winder), Raoette (Bootsma) and Centnurus (F. Hhin) were in that order at the end of six furlongs in 1.16 1-5. Prince Rangi executed his work in good style. The two-year-old Olympus (C. L. Goulsbro) brushed over three furlongs in 375, timo which Whirling (J. Day) equalled. Rollicker (P. Brady) occupied 38 2-5s for three furlongs. Australian Star (C. L. Goulsbro) accounted for Kurapae (A. Gilmer) over five furlongs in 1.6 1-5.

Among those to bo allotted strong pace work were Lucidus, Kilberis, Boughal and Orae. An impressive trial over a round of the steeplechase country was executed by Brvce Street (N. C. Trillo), who gave a dashing display. Ho is in splendid fettle for engagements ahead. , Day Boy (L'\ E. Baker) jumped two hurdles along the. back and got through his task in a satisfactory manner.

HAWERA EXERCISES

DAISY CHAIN IN FORM STUDENT PRINCE IMPRESSES SMART SIX WITH LOWENBERG' [HY TEt.EGRAFH —01VX CORRESPONDENT] HA WE liA, Thursday, Most of the horses with Stratford engagements were given their final gallops at Hawera this morning. Conditions were ideal and the plough hecame faster as work progressed. Daisy Chain, Royal Fire, Lowenbcrg, Student Prince. Golden Orchid asid the two-year-olds, Prime Quality and Dark Eagle, showed impressive trials. Daisy Chain (Pepperill) covered half a mile soon after daybreak in 51s. She had a little in reserve and her prospects are considered to be excellent. Golden Orchid (Sexton), who was accompanied over the first three furlongs by Killing Lady (Fryer), traversed five furlongs in 1.3 2-5, the first three in 37 4-ss. Golden Orchid was a rjo'uple, of lengths in front when her companion was pulled up. She has goiie on the right way since the Opiinake races. Notium (Cole) did a round of solid pace work. Ho will meet Raco Call on puich betters terms on Saturday than at Awapuni. t Trilitha (Sexton) and Fafuer (Fryer) recorded 1.17 4-5 when associated over six furloilgs, occupying 51s for the first half-mile. The result of the Trial Stakes may lio between this pair. Naughty Marietta's Task Lickein (Monkley) recorded 30s for throe furlongs. He did not hit out with his customary freedom. Naughty Marietta (Sexton) began from .the six-furlong post and, joined by Reo Ra (Fryer) after two furlongs, ran home in 1.18 2-5. No fault can be found witlf her condition. The best gallop of the morning was that of Lowenberg (Colo) and Student Prince (Monkley), who were on terms throughout six furlongs iu 1.16 2-5, after taking: 50 3-5s for the first halfmile. Both camo home strongly and they should take a deal of beating iu their respective races. Dancing Lady (Farland) camo in slightly ahead ot Race Call (George) alter five furlongs run in 1.3 The former is a brilliant track worker, but Race Call invariably does better with the colours up. He has never looked better and his Easter mission is to be the Easter Handicap at Ellerslie. Lucreo (Toki) was kept up to her work to run three furlongs in 37 3-ss. Royal Fire (Colo) went well for a hurdler iu completing half a mile in 51s. Prime Quality Shapes Well Captain Bligh (Fryer) beat Flying Hostess (Monkley) in 51 l-ss. The former should be well suited by the roomy Stratford course. On the outside of the course proper, with the pegs well out, Prime Quality (Cole) led Dark Eagle (Monkley) over the early stages of five furlongs, but there was li.'ttle between the pair, in 1.4 2-5, a smart gallop. I'hey have benefitted from recent racing. Gold Glare is doing light work. Ho is boing kept going with a view to racing during; the winter and his next outing may jie at Waverley. Wee Ethel has gone amiss and is an unlikely starter in the Trial Stakes.
