SOME SMART SPRINTS PASTURE'S FOUR FURLONGS SOUND FIVE BY WHITE FOAM Several smart sprints were recorded at Ellerslio yesterday, one of particular merit being that of the improving two-year-olds, First Gold Money and Bronze Emerald, who reeled off a very fast three furlongs. Most of the work was done on tlio No. 3 grass and the tan, the former track being fast. On the grass Palmint (Jones) finished ahead of Master Appellant (Stokes) and Avail (Clifford) at the end of five furlongs in I.G. They ran the first two furlongs in 2G 3-5s and Palmint finished in good style. Bright Idea (Kerr), going comfortably, completed five furlongs in- 1.8 .'{-ss. Pasture (Clifford) and the Bomnoy— Thurnley gelding (Gilchrist) pleased by the manner in which they got to the end of half a mile in 49 3-os. They ran the first furlong in 12 l-5s and, although Past tiro was slightly in front at the finish, the Bomney gelding was going well within himself. Love Parade (Coon) finished better than Electric Spear (Tremain) at the conclusion of half a mile in 51 4-ss, the first furlong taking 13 2-ss. Love Parade, who is to run at Matamata, should be all the better for a race.

Fidelis (Markwiek) hit out well in a sprint down the straight. He is bearing a more robust- appearance than formerly and is to race at Easter. First Gold Money Speedy Neil (Gemmell) worked a mile and a-quarter, averaging 15s to the furlong. Sir Abb (Wiggiys) easily run the last half-mile of his work in 53 4-ss. Ho is in splendid order and his next start will bo at WJiangarei. Tane Mahutu (Clarke) and United (Gemmell), after taking 25 3-5s for the first two, completed five furlongs in 1.5 4-ss. They were joined at the top of the straight by an unnamed Surveyor gelding (O'Connor), who led at tho finish. Wliito Foam (Gilchrist) was responsible for a smart fivo furlongs in 1.2 3-ss. The first two furlongs wero run in 25s and sho finished well. White Foam is showing improvement. A fast three furlongs was credited to First Gold Money (Gilchrist) and Bronze Emerald (Murray), who recorded 35 4-ss. First Gold Money finished in front, but it was a very pleasing performance on tho part of both two-year-olds, who have mado much improvement lately. Flectwind (Gilchrist) displayed her usual speed by sprinting half a mile in 49 3-ss. She finished well.

On the tan, Knight of Australia (Trcinain) covered seven furlongs in 1.41 3-5. He was going comfortably throughout and is in good order. Royal Appellant (Fcarn) traversed a round in 2.0 4-5, the last six furlongs in 1.26 1-5. Ho did it easily and pulled up well. Glen Abb (Green) finished his work by sprinting the last three furlongs in 41 4-ss. He looks in capital trim for his -Whangarei engagements. •After commencing slowly, Ringshot (Gilchrist) ran five furlongs in 1.9 4-5. Although he has been disappointing, Ringshot lias never looked better than at present. Shv (Nicholson) worked solidly over a circuit, -but was not after time. Valmint Goes Nicely Collison (Dornan) came home the last three of his work in 43 4-ss, whilo his stablemate Hunting Star worked strongly over seven furlongs. Both have made good progress since arriving at ICllerslie and arc to race at Whnngarei. Valmint (Murray) pleased by getting to the ejul of five furlongs in 1.7 2-5, the last,four taking 525. Ho was joined by All Irish (Tremain) at the half-mile, but beat tho latter home by a couple of lengths. All Irish, who was having his first sprint since being recommissioned, hit out freely and pulled up sound. Alvth (Tremain) was timed to run the last three furlongs of her work in 41 3-5. Sho worked scratchily and will need the sting out of the ground before showing her nest form. She has made considerable improvement in appearance since being taken over by B. George. On the sand Kilonsa (Wiggins) and Land Girl (Fearn) sprinted four furlongs in 52 3-ss. They finished together and both worked very satisfactorily.

TAKANINI HORSES

11 EI) LEG EH IMPROVED HALF-MILE WITH VAALS STAR ROUND UP AND VALAMITO FIT After a goqd rainfall on Tuesday night, the insido grass track, with poles out sft., was in first-class order at Takanini yesterday. The plough was also in use. Anion and Inver worked well over half a mile and Valamito and Hound Up allowed to advantage in a sprint, over five furlongs. Hitch Sea galloped six furlongs in an encouraging manner.

Anion (Hurtle) and Inver (JnglitO uere not pressed to record <l9 2-5 a for half a mile, the last three furlongs occupying 37 2-ss. Both horses look well and put plenty of dash into their work. Anion, particularly, was anxious to go faster.

ited Ledger (G. Smith) finished a length in front of Vaals Star (Collctt) in 49 3-ss, taking 37 l-5s over the last three furlongs. This was one of lied Ledger's best efforts to date. Hot Box (Inglis), pulling very hard at. the finish, was with Arvakur (liartlc) at the end ol' an easy live furlongs in 1.0 2-5. Both colts could have dune much better, as they took 53 2-os lor the last four.

Valaiuito (Collett) ami Hound Up (G. Smith), who look* in the pink of condition, were companions over live furlongs in 1.3 3-5. They finished together and ran the last four in 50 3-ss. High Sea (Parkinson) finished three lengths in front of Siega (G. Smith) at the end of seven furlongs, the last six of which occupied 1.19. They went fast over the first two in 24 4-5s and ran home the last three in 40s. They were together a furlong from homo, when Sioga stopped suddenly. Pocket Venus (Curwen), who is improving with racing, ran three furlongs up the back in 375, the last furlong m 12 l-ss. Jtoyovrus worked at halfpace over three furlongs up the back and then trotted once round. High Quality (Curwen) went over a mile and a-half in 2.52. He was joined by the -Paladin—Capable mare over the last round, they stayed together. Among those doing useful work were Paddy the llip, Grateful, who held his condition well on the Tauranga trip, Milaueon, Brazilian, Silver Glow, the Hoariri filly, Teak, Ivy Willonyx,' Flood Tide, who looks as if a few gallops would bring him to his best, tho yearling sister to Palustre, tho Surveyor gelding in W. H. Paterson's stable. Sacccwe, who was very light whon he resumed work, but is now building up. and Lapidarian.

Wykemist. (P. Mcllroy) was sent over four flights of hurdles at hunting pace and gave a very safe display. Huntsman's Chorus (P. Mcllroy) again ran off once, but otherwise gave a dashing display over four hurdles. He is a bold jumper. F. Smith has put tho gear on his yearlings, and in due courso they will make their appearance on tho training tracks.
