ACCIDENT AT POLO
PLAYER SERIOUSLY HURT UNCONSCIOUS IN HOSPITAL INJURED WHEN PONY FELL [bv telegraph—ottx correspondent] HASTINGS. Monday Serious injuries were received by Mr. Lan Mackenzie, of Havelock North, ■when his pony fell with him during a polo match at the Omahu Road grounds. Mr. Mackenzie was taken to a private hospital in Hastings suffering from severe concussion and was still unconscious to-night. His condition is regarded as critical. Mr. Mackenzie, who was playing in a club game between B and C teams, was making a sharp turn during a fast piece of play when his mount was; slightly bumped by another. The impact was not great, but was sufficient to make the pony cross its legs and fall. The rider went down with the pony, striking his head, one leg being pinned under his mount. The fall did not appear to be a heavy one, but when Mr. Mackenzie did not recover consciousness within a short time a doctor was called.
