MANY APPLICANTS 110 FOR SECRETARYSHIP TWO DIRECTORS RECOMMENDED There were 110 applications for the position of secretary of the Auckland Hospital Board, and 14 for the posts of Director of Surgery and Director of Medicirte at the honpital. It was stated last night that a. very large proportion of the applicants for the secretaryship were Australians, and because of that and the board's desire to secure the best man available several weeks wovdd elapse before the name of the appointee could be announced. In all probability the names of the two directors will be made public this week. The chairman of the board, the Rev. W. C. Wood, returned from Wellington yesterday, after a consultation with the select advisory committee appointed to consider the appointment of tho two medical directors for the hospital. The committee comprises Mr. Wood. Dr. M. H. Watt, Director-General of Health, Professor C. K. Herons, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Otago University, Sir Donald McGavin, representing the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, and Professor D. W. Carmalt .Jones, representing the Australasian College of Physicians. The committee spent several hours in going over the 14 applications, and ultimately decided upon two men, both New Zealanders ivith high academic qualifications and extensive experience. Mr. Wood has come back to Auckland with the names of the two men recommended by the committee, and will submit them to a meeting of the board in committee this evening, when he will move to have them considered with the applications for the secretaryship at a special meeting, some time this week.
