STATUS OF PAPATOETOE
ELEVATION TO BOROUGH ; PETITION ON PROPOSAL Steps toward' the establishment of Papatoetoe as a borough were taken by the Papatoetoe Town Board on Tuesday night when the preparation of a petition for circulation throughout the district was authorised. At its previous meeting the board approved of a proposal to endeavour to raise the district's status. The chairman, Mr. W. J. Nicholson, said the municipal elections were to be held in May. It would not be desirable to have a new t-own board elected then and possibly another selection for a borough council within a few months. He suggested that an effort be made to complete the action required by the statute in sufficient time to enable one election to meet the position. It was decided to adopt this course and to have the board's solicitors prepare copies of a petition for signature.
