STEEL DELIVERIES

CONTRACTS EXTENDED PUBLIC WORKS UNDERTAKINGS Although the Public Works Department in Auckland has experienced some difficulties in obtaining .supplies of steel for various works it has undertaken, these do not appear to have been so great as have been reported as affecting work by the department in Hawke's Bay. The department in Auckland has been able to maintain some stocks at its depot at Penrose, and has been rationing supplies. It has been. found necessary, however, to extend several contracts ifor bridge building in the district because the builders were unable to get steel dliveries without long delays. The most important of such contracts is-the Piako bridge on the Hamilton-T6 Aro highway.
