AHUWHENUA CUP CONTESIT [by telegraph OWN* correspondent] WHAKATANE, Friday About 500 people gathered in the Anzac Hall at Ruatoki for the presentation of a certificate of merit and a medal to Mr. J. H. Black, who was placed thbd among the Maori farmers in the contest for the Ahuwhenua Cup, presented by Lord Bletlisloe, with the object of encouraging good farming methods among the Maoris. Sir Apirana Ngata. in whose electorate Ruatoki is, made the presentation. The Native Department was represented b,v Messrs. L, 13. Brown, farm supervisor, K. G. Runeiinan. and James Merritt, field supervisor of the native development scheme at Ruatoki Mr Tui Tawera acted as interpreter. Mr. Takarua Tama ran, a chief of the -Tuhoe tribe, .wejcomed the visitors. \—r
