MISHAPS TO STEAMER

AGROUND ON APIA REEF FOULING OF PROPELLER [from our own correspondent] APIA. Dec. 17 A series of mishaps delayed the departure of the 2333-ton steamer Sagres from Apia for two days. At several stages tho vessel, which is owned by the Kin Hong Stoam Ship Company, Limited, was threatened, but serious damage was averted. When leaving port on Thursday night the vessel ran on the reef on the western side of the entrance and was refloated two and a-half hours later. To assist in the work, a wire hauser was carried to a buoy and passed over the winch in doublft action. The ship came off with a rush, the propeller, which was going astern, fouled the hauser and the ship was left helpless. She was finally secured and, after two days' work, the propeller was cleared. On Friday night the moorings parted during a squall, tho anchor dragged and For somo time the ship was in danger, as her propeller was still out of action. On Saturday night the crew staged a mild fracas and when this was adjusted the ship left at mjdnight. A marino court of inquiry, which investigated the grounding of the Sagres, reserved its decision.
