MEN'S DOUBLES FINAL DEFEAT OF AMERICANS AUSTRALIAN PAIR WIN (Received December 10, 11.45 p.m.) MELBOURNE. Dec. 10 The world tennis doubles pair, Budge and Mato (United States), were defeated in the final of the Victorian championships to-day by Crawford and McGrath, I—6, 6—3, &—4, 7-r5. The Australians fought back so stubbornly in the second set that they were able to remain on top for the rest of the match. They repeatedly took Mako's service. ' >
It was not a brilliant doubles display, but there were flashes of international class play. Budge's shoulder which he injured in a car accident before he left America, gave some trouble. The final of the women's doubles resulted in Miss Wynne and Mrs. Hopman defeating Misses Hartigan and Coyne, 7—5, 6—l.
