HASTINGS TRACK

OUTSTANDING TKIALS ROYAL MINSTREL AND GF.IRA FOSSICKER DEFEATS GASMAN [»Y TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] HASTINGS, Thursday The Hastings tracks are in excellent summer order, with a thick sole of grass. Nevertheless, there was nothing outstanding in the final gallops to-day for the' Waipawa meeting, excepting tho trial of the Trenthani double winner, Royal Minstrel, who galloped the last seven furlongs of a round on the plough in 1.29, on which he should be good enough to win a firstclass open handicap. Royal Minstrel will bo ridden on Saturday by R. Marsh. Pakanui, who was in generous mood this morning, sprinted six furlongs in 1.17. Geira, who is very fit, dashed over live furlongs, hard held, in 1.4. Triplex covered half a mile in <52 2-ss. Mahutai did tho lust three furlongs of two rounds of pace work in 3!-'s, showing a decided improvement since returning from his unsuccessful Mastcrtou and ,Wellington trip. Seyfried and Fundv Bay required 52 2-5s for half a mile. Flame Queen, Tliala and Jaoynth were restricted to a working gallop over fivo furlongs in 1.8. Tho last-named is more solid, and should run up to track form now better than formerly Pladie Beats Tres Sec Pladio easily accounted for Tres See over a round in 1.44 2-5, timo which was bettered by tho same pair on Tuesday. Winitangi held Tullnmoro, a bad track worker, over six furlongs in 1.20. Hamarin had little difficulty in defeating Daryiil over half a mile in 52 2-ss, but neither was impressive. Laughing Song, a half-sister to Mercian Prince, was going better all tho way than Sweepaway in 525. Merry Simon created a mild surprise by beating Diana Tetrix easily over three furlongs in 395. Early in tho season the former gave promise, but shinsoreness prevented her showing up at the Hastings meeting in October. This trouble sho has now thrown off. Iddo ran six furlongs in 1.18. Larwood came in ahead of Buster Brown after fivo furlongs in 1.5. The former should run well on Saturday. Top Hat jumped fast over the hurdles, and later came out to run fivo with Parry in 1.7. The latter appears to be a little sore after his Trenthani racing. Kikiroki and Rupae finished abreast, clear of Black Frost, over half a mile in 525. Black Frost was left four lengths, to get within a length of the winner. Quimpcr and Cardu recorded 39s for three furlongs. Sir Nigel Improves Sir Nigel went better than for some timo in running six furlongs in 1.17 3-5, beating Haile Selassie and Maine comfortably. Fossickor, carrying over 9.0, accounted for Gasman in a fivo furlongs trial in 1.4. Tlio former appears to be back to his best. Joe Louis, who may be unable to start on Saturday on account of an injured month, strode evenly over fivo' furlongs in 1.4 2-5. Enfin ran four in 535. then bolted for a couple of rounds. Slippery, stopping at the end, galloped half a mile in 52 2-ss. A poor track galloper in Soho covered seven furlongs in J. 32 2-5, being assisted over tho last five by Power Chief in 1.5 3-5. Ivar, the Beau Pero colt in S. Rcid's stable, has now recovered from a cold, and he. dashed over three furlongs in" 375. He will not race until the Napier meeting next week.
