EMPIRE MIGRATION
PERMANENT COMMITTEE APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED PLAN TO BE FORMULATED LONDON, Oct. 13 The Empire' Migration Conference at tha Guildhall to-day appointed a permanent committee, including the Earl of Mansfield, Viscount Bledisloe, Brigadier-General Nation, Sir P. J. Hannon, MJ\ (Conservative, Mosley) and Mr. C. G. Ammon, M.P. (Labour, North Cumberwell). A plan will be drawn up in collaboration with migration organisations in Britain and the Dominions for submission to the British Government. The chairman of the conference said it was intended firstly to attempt to form a federation of British voluntary migration bodies to avoid the overlapping of activities. Brigadier Culshaw,- of the Salvation Army, said that General Booth last year had authorised an Empire survey by experts with a view to ascertaining the chances of resuming migration. It was discovered that without exception the Dominions were most desiroiis of a resumption. On the other hand, hesitation and apathy in Britain were proved conclusively to exist after visits to 30,000 homes.
