BRIGHTER TONE
LONDON STOCKMABKET \ 1 ■■ SPANISH SITUATION FORMER FEARS DISPELLED r WALL STREET'S RECOVERY By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received October 14, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, Oct. 13 The London stock markets are distinctly brighter, prices are higher, and in almost all sections buyers are readier to purchase. Mines and - home industrials made quite a cheerful showing to-day. The sudden change in sentiment is attributed partly to the dissipation of fears about the Spanish situation and partly to authoritative assurances given to the effect that no large, or even a small, financial institution had had to canvass for assistance. A message from New York says the heaviest selling wave of the year swept the stock market there and carried prices down sharply. However, the market recovered in the closing hours, with some issues—particularly the steel groups—showing net gains for the day. The downward sweep of the market in the past few months has resulted'in an average loss of 23 points and a total loss on sales prices in excess of . 120 billion dollars.
