EX-SOLDIERS' TRIP
SYDNEY VISIT PROPOSAL APPLICATIONS IN AUCKLAND No difficulty is anticipated in securing the full quota of ex-servicemen from Auckland to join the large contingent of New Zealand returned soldiers which it is proposed should visit Sydney next April. Auckland's allotment is 118 and it is expected that more than double this number of applications for inclusion will be received by the Auckland Returned Soldiers' Association.
Already, between 50 and 60 applications have been received and this number will be increased "within the next few weeks. It is known that there are many members of the 20 suburban returned soldiers' clubs in Auckland who have not yet advised the association of their desire to make the trip. The proposal is the outcome of an invitation extended by the Returned Sailors and Soldiers' Imperial League of Australia i*or up to 1000 former members of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force to visit Sydney during the sesquicentennial of New South Wales and, in particular, to head the march of ex-servicemen on Anzac Day. On condition that the vessel is filled, the "Union Steam Ship Company has agreed to make the Maunganui available for the voyage across the Tasman.
