Bimbo (Fryer) completed three furlongs in 41.15. Fnfiler (Hawkes) shaded Narrator (Cole) at the end of a similar distance in 138 4-os. Fufner worked nicely, but his prospects on Thursday may have suffered a little through his work being restricted last week owin<r to a slight cold.

Reo Ha (I'ryer) sprinted an easv wo furlongs m L'Ss. He is coming to hand nicely, but will be benelitccf bv a couple of races. Trilitho (Hawkes) and Killing Ladv (Fryer) showed dash over two furlongs, finishing together in X.ois. Both youngsters hit out well. Guineas Candidate The Wauganui Guineas candidate Lickeiu (L, Monklcy) was doiu ( * r slightly better than '.Loweiiberg (IL Murray) at the conclusion oF five furlongs in 1.7 after running the first two ill Jos. Frieshuid (.Monkley) was under restraint- while running three furlongs with Billing Star (.Murray), in 40 4-ss. Friesland is in great heart and mav be a starter on the second day at Now Plymouth.

Vienna (M. Gilmore), gained a breakon Otaki (I. Rohloffj in the early stages of five furlongs, but waited for her companion and they finished on terms in 3.10. Vienna* is a speedy filly and the turning track at New Plymouth should suit her. She is engaged in novice events. Two-Year-Olds Sprint

Gold Glare (Pcpperill) and Le Marquis (Cole) completed two rounds of pace work by sprinting down the straight. The two-year-olds Captain Bligli, by Captain Bunsby from Molleen Ogc, and the filly by Siegfried from J3ctrothal under R. Brough's caro completed useful tasks by running homo smartly over three furlongs. Captain Bligh is a sturdily-built bay colt, and, although nothing of a serious nature has been asked of him, is coming to hand nicely. The Siegfried filly has done well during the past few weeks. She is not heint; hurried, but should be readv to race at shorl; notice.

Rioghail (1. Rohlofi) schooled over five steeplechase fences, but did not impress. He jumped the first obstacle well, but stopped badly at the remaining fences. Royal Fire was lame after schooling on Saturday and his prospects of competing at New Plymouth cio not appear bright. He has been absent from the • tracks for the past two days. Student Prince, Friesland, River Fenle and King Pluto, who are not engaged on Thursday, may be fresh horses from Hawera to compete on the second day at New Plymouth.

On the grass, Flcetwind (Gilchrist) was clear of Captain Bruce (Wiggins) at tho end of half a mile in 54 4-ss. Kelly (Gilchrist) ran "he same distance easily in 54 l-ss. Teddy Boy (McTavis'h) covered six furlongs in 1.23 2-5. Stretto (Moore) strode over five furlongs in 1.10, the last half-mile in 55 l-ss. Sho is making steady progress. Bright Idea (Kerr) and Bronze Wings .(Stokes) went four furlongs in 55 -l-ss. Royal Appellant (Buchanan) completed useful work with throe furlongs in 42 l-ss. Clansman covered the same distance in similar time. King Neptune (Green) went nicely over five furlongs with Glen Abb (Wiggins) in 1.8 1-5, the last three in 40 1-os. To Hai ran an easy six furlongs in 1.25 2-5. He is progressing nicely and should be in good trim for the spring meetings. Land Girl (MeTavish) pleased better than Vaalso (Cameron) over half a mile in 54 3-ss. She is more forward than Vaalso, who was eased for a period during the winter owing to a cold. Hot Shot (Wiggins) and Privy Seal (D. Green) ran five furlongs in 1.7. Rainier (Ritchie) and Fidelis (Wiggins) sprinted three furlongs in 38 4-ss, Fidelis is carrying an improved appearance. Oh ma ha (Murray) reeled off four furlongs in 53 3-ss. Kiltowvn (Cameron) and Plav On (I?. Foam) covered five furlongs in 1.4, trie last half-mile in 50 3-ss. Valmiut (Murray) was too good for Sir Russell (Gonlsbro) while running six furlongs in 1.20 2-5. Tvbalt (Gilchrist) placed six furlongs "behind in 1.21. the first three in 40 l~ss. Ringshot encompassed a round in 1.44 3-5, the last six furlongs in 1.23 1-5. Saccone (Cameron) wart in front ol School Song (Murra.v), Siega (Tromain) and Prince Colossus (Olive) at tho conclusion of six furlongs in 1.2 L 2-5. The next couple of months may do a good deal for Saccone, who lias a nice turn of speed. On the tan, Knight of Australia completed a round with six furlongs in 1.27 3-5. Baekbloek and Carshalton ran half a mile in 50 2-ss. Prince Colossus (Olive) jumped four hurdles, but went very carefully, his fall at the Pivkuranga Hunt meeting having evidently shaken his confidence. Gowanlea (Olive) cleared four hurdles satisfactorily.

DEATH OF MR. T. SHEENAN

The death occurred 011 Monday at the Auckland Hospital of Mr. Thomas Sheenan, widely known in racing circles for over 50 years, first as a jockey and later as an owner and trainer, lie rode Kosciusko to victory in the Grand National Steeplechase in 1883, and was 011 the runner-up, Uarbarv' when The Agent scored his last victorv in the following year. He was also on the favourite, Ravenswood, when Moody won in 1885. Among the earliest whom Mr. Sheenan raced was the successful mare, Psvohe. from whom he bred Vogen"ang winner as a two-year-old of the Middle Park Plate, beating Stepniak, the C.-J.C. Champagne Stakes, and later of manv other races. Other winners for him were Merrymaker, Antigone, To Taiha, Passionato, Greek Maid and Greek Son.
