BOWLING NOTES

INTER-CLTJB CONTESTS MATCH FOR EDWIN STARS BALMORAL WINS DENISON PINS Tutor-club matches for tlie Edwin Stars and the Denison Pins were played on Saturday, Rocky Nook retaining the former trophies and Balmoral depriving Kllerslie of the latter. The game for the Edwin Stars was played oil the Rocky Nook green, which had heen closed down for a time, and which was consequently a little on the slow side, although it played true on hotli hands. This did not deter the visiting Remuera team, in the charge of G. McMillan, from holding the home players for quite a time. The visiting skip gave his opponents a sample of his fine drawing powers, and proved a difficult proposition for Keatlev. However, the home team, after being badly placed a few heads from the finish, came along with a series of good scores and ultimately finished up with a sevenpoint margin. The next challenges is J. H. Colthurst, West End. The Ellerslie team, skipped by E. Maud, lost possession of the Denison Pins when the challenging Balmoral rink, in the charge of R. Goldsmith, proved superior on the day. The Balmoral skip was in great drawing form and, besides saving well at times, lie frequently added to the score. The Balmoral rink had a good lead at the tea adjournment and wns not unduly troubled to hold its advantage to the end, when the score was 23 points to 13 in Balmoral's favour.

Credit is due to C. King, the Balmoral captain, for a fine display of leading. Gilford, who acted as number three, also proved a stumbling block, especially for his immediate opponent, T. J oil. The winning team was very sound and the losers were unable to cope with its extremely steady play. The next challenger is C. J. Moon, Mount Eden.

GAME FOR DIGGERS' BADGES GREY LYNN RETAINS TROPHIES An excellent game took place on the Grey Lynn green, where a match for the Diggers' Badges was played between a home rink, skipped by J. C. Preston, and the challengers, Oneliunga, in the charge of S. Vella. The strength of the Oneliunga team, which besides Vella comprised Ross, Cross and Robertson, did not dismay the home side, which played so well that the Oneliunga champions were defeated by 22 points to 16. Considering the undoubted ability of the visiting rink, and the fact that it held a seven-point lead after the first throe heads, Grey Lynn's performance was distinctly good. Grey Lynn was a few points in the lead at the tea adjournment and on the resumption held the advantage and finally won by six points.

Wilson, the Grey Lynn lead, who has only been at the game for two seasons, more than held J. K. Ross, while Mason, at number two, was superior on the day to Cross. Of the number threes. Mincham and Robertson, there was little to choose, both playing sound games. Preston, the Grey Lynn skip, on several occasions turned the position nicely in his team's favour. The next challenger is Rogers, Waitemata.
