DEFENCE REORGANISATION
Sir, —One point about the reorganised Territorial scheme deserves comment, if not commendation. We have a Territorial force, with a personnel of 8000 (roughly), on a 12,000 establishment. Our legislators must have the personnel up to establishment. Do they embark upon a recruiting campaign, basing argument in favour upon the ideal that any young man worthy to be classed with his sex should be eager to carry on the traditions. Or even that it is the obvious duty of every male human to learn the best method of defence of his women? Oh, no! This is a democratic country, and no one must be compelled to do anything be does not wish to do, except live under compulsion financially, economically and (in every direction other than military service) personally. And their solution? If your personnel does not come up to your establishment, why, just reduce your establishment to tit your personnel. So simple. Mariata.
