MILITARY RESERVE
INTEREST IN AUCKLAND MANY LIKELY RECRUITS FULL ENLISTMENT EXPECTED Numerous inquiries from young men anxious to take advantage of the opportunity provided by the Government to join a special reserve to be attached to the territorial division of the New Zealand military forces were received at the headquarters of the Northern Command in Auckland yesterday. There is provision for 50 enlistments in the command, and applications are being received at the area offices at Auckland, Hamilton, Wliangarei and Paeroa. No difficulty in obtaining the 50 recruits to fill the vacancies is anticipated. It is expected that many of the candidates will be young men who arc at present unemployed, and who will welcome the opportunity of three months' training, on pay, and also vocational training, for which provision has been made.
The special course *of three months' training in artillery work will commence at Narrow Neck on September 21. The camp is being renovated and fitted to receive the recruits, who will be instructed in general artillery work and gunnery, as a coast defence unit. Other courses for different units will be held at Narrow Neck while tho recruits are at the camp. After the three months' training have been completed, applications will lie received from recruits who wish to enlist iu the regular force. It is stated that every endeavour will be made to obtain work for those who are unemployed, and it is hoped that in this respect the vocational training provided will be an advantage. Recruiting for the special reserve is also in progress in Wellington and C'hristehurch. In Wellington there are vacancies for 50 recruits for the artillery and 50 for the infantry, and in C'hristehurch 50 infantry recruits arc wanted.
