AUCKLAND FIGURES ALL-ROUND INCREASE GAINS OVER LAST YEAR TOTALS FOR EIGHT MONTHS An all-round increase in revenue collected by the Customs Department in ; Auckland is shown in the return for last month, compared with those for 1 July and for August, 1936. Customs j duty totalled £323,769, the largest amount for any month this year, against £272,366 in July, and £272,666 in August, 1936. The net customs revenue for the month totalled £359,941, which is easily a record figure for Wellington, eclipsing the previous record of £315,179 established in July. Tlifei figures for this month, folio-wed by those for August, 1936, are: —Net customs, £359,941 and £289,751; motor spirit, £68,418 and £61,268; tyre tax, £3701 and £18S0; sales tax, £113,754 and £93,206; beer excise, £6326 and £4251.

Tuesday Customs duty collected at the port of Dunedin during August shows an increase of £21,570 over the total for the same month last year.
