RADIO LICENCES

INCREASE OVER LAST YEAR DIRECTOR-GENERAL'S RETURN There were 25V.-197 radio licences current at the end of July, compared with 205,916 at the end of July last year, according to advice received from the Director-General of the Post and Telegraph Department. These totals represent the aggregate of receivers', dealers', experimental and a number of free licences, in addition to those for broadcasting. Under the heading of receivers, Wellington district led with 89,657. then came Auckland, with 80,262, Canter bury, with 47,07.0. and Otago, with 34,683, making a total of 251,572. In the respective districts there were 410, 443, 212 and 157 dealers, while the records showed there were 400 ex periniental amateur licences issued in the Wellington district, 253 in the Auckland district, 194 in Canterbury and 121 in Otago. Nine licences weiv current for broadcasting in Wellington, two each in Auckland and Canterbury, and seven in Otago.
