GOLD ROD UNINJURED CONDITION AFTER FALL THE CHANCER WELL FANCIED (Received August 29, 2.30 p.m.) August 29 A veterinary surgeon who examined Gold Rod is satisfied the horse will suffer no ill-effects from his fall on the tracks. Although he was going at full speed when ho fell, there is not even a mark on him. The connections of Genetout seem a little more hopeful, but his prospects are verv doiibtful. Sir Ross is also a doubtful startor in tho Metropolitan Handicap, but tho Melbourne horso, The Chanter, will probably bo a strong favourite. , ■ i Impressive performers at \\ nrwick Farm were Gay Chou, Prittlo Prattle and Tuckiar. Silver Standard did not pleaso as much as Fireman in their dead-heat in the Spring Handicap. Pamelus has been withdrawn from tho Epsom Handicap. TRAINING AT HAWERA FRIESLAND BACK TO FORM [BY TELEGHAFH —OWN COKUKSI'ONDENT] HAWERA, Saturday Conditions wero ideal for training at Hawera this morning, the course proper being in excellent order. Overnight rain was very welcome and helped to ease tho going. A feature of the work was tho schooling of hunters engaged at New Plymouth next week. Fafner (Hawkes) Narrator (Cole) and Reo Ra (Fryer) finished in the order named at intervals of a length over half-a-milo in 52 l-ss. Ruling Lady (Fryer) sprinted threefurlongs in 31) 4-ss. Sho is a neat filly and her track efforts have been very promising. Bimbo (Fryer) was kicked up to record 53s for half-a-mile. Friesland (Monkley) and Lowenberg (Murray) wero going nicely at tho end of balf-a-inile in 51 4-ss. Tho former is displaying all his former brilliance and promises to strip a fit horso next produced. Lowenberg is improving. Swift and Sure (Grylls) opened up a three lengths' break on Master Limond (Fryer) over tho early stages of a six-furlong trial on tho plough, but the latter reached his companion at tho top of tho straight and was a good length in front wlion tho post was reached in 1.21 2-5. Tho plough was fairlv heavy and both horses galloped well under tho conditions. Vienna (Gilmore) jumped) off two lengths behind Lickem (Monkley) and Ruling Star (Murray) for a halfmile sprint. Vienna soon ran up to the other pair, but she was again two lengths away at tho finish. Lickcm beat Ruling Star in 53s by noarlv a length. Student Princo (Cole) shaded Irilitho (Hawkes) over two furlongs in 255. Student Princo had a_ good deal in reserve. Ho probably will lie seen out again on tho second day of tho combined hunts' meeting. Advanco Plane (Fryer) registered 43 l-5s for th.reo furlongs, but ho was hampered by tho saddle slipping over his withers. From a barrier start, Gold Glaro (Mills) and Le Marquis (Grylls) ran three furlongs in 42 2-ss. Both jumped out well, but neither is yet ready to race. Prairie Boy (Mr. Davidson) and Rioghail (P. Button) gave a fair exhibition over eight steeplechase fences. Prairio Boy outjumped his companion at every obstacle and he _ impressed as more than a possibility for the Trial Hunters' Steeplechase on Thursday. Royal Fire (Button) and Gold Tor (Pepperill) wero associated in a similar tnsk. Both gave a bright exhibition. Royal Fire wont to the front at tho soil wall and finished well clear.
