NOTES ON RACING

SUCCESS OF QUEEIDA TE KAHU BEATS TAN JOHN VICTORY FOR MORI BINGEN Carrying the colours of Mrs. K. Bridgens, wife of tlie newly-elected president of the Auckland Trotting Club, tho improving Queridn won tho Introductory Handicap in good style. Queridn was inclined to break in the first furlong but did not lose any ground, and when the field had settled down she was in second position behind Pink Lady, who set a solid pace. Pink Ladv broke at tho end of tho first round and Querida then assumed command to run homo an easy winner from Great Guy, who trotted well, and paid close on doublo figures for second. Tho back-marker, Pura Bingen, gave a fino display of trotting for third and went six seqonds better than her handicap. Colleen Murphy went unsteadily but she did best of the others to finish fourth ahead of Pirate's Last, who broke badly early, and Pink Lady. Tho oacli-wav favourite, Lady Bunker, gave au inglorious display and failed to settle down at any stage. Double Figures Dividend

Although he was second favourite in the place betting, Hori Bingen was not as well supported 011 tho win machine - and he returned doublo figures on the straight-out machine when he won the Mount Eden Handicap. Hori Bingen began smartly and led throughout, scoring very decisively at tho end from Worthy, Song, who was always handy, and made a game effort in the straight without having any chance with tho winner. Crattan Girl paced soundly through the large field to secure third, and Forest Jewel caino home well to bo fourth. Eyre, who looked a winning possibility entering tho straight, faded back to fifth and was followed by Sequoia and Hillcrest. The each-wav favourite, Guido Peter, lost his chance when he began slowly and Bronzo Queen was another well-supported candidate who made a slow beginning. Captain Scott and Gloster also began slowly. Pacing evenly throughout, Lady Fame won tho August Handicap in fino style. Kewpie's King led for about half a mile, when ho gave way to Lady Fame, tho pair being well clear of the others. With a round to go tho runners were all going smoothly and it was not until tho half-mile post was reached that the speed increased. Lady Fame continued to make play and led into the straight frc-m Kewpie's King, Nervie's Last and Ironside. Nothing had a chance with Lady Fame in the run home and she comfortably defeated Kewpie's King, who issued a strong challenge when the straight was reached. Our McKinney stayed on solidly to get third and Ironside was fourth, with Nervie's Last right up and Star Pronto a long way back. The slow pace early suited Lady Fame, who went the last mile in 2.12. Kewpie's King paced one of his best races and his turn should come soon. - :: Stablemates to Fore

F. J. Smith provided the first and second in the Grey Lynn Handicap with Crocus and Sandusky, the bracketed pair paying more for a place than for a win. Crocus was patiently driven in tho early stages but moved up fast along the back and had reached the front when the field turned for home. Crocus was not troubled to win by a length from Sandusky, who finished solidly over the final stages to beat Queenie Direct by three-quarters of a length. Queenie Direct paced solidly throughout and may show further improvement in tho near future. Atarau King was always in the picture and did best of the others to finish fourth. Bedford was prominent for about a mile, but was well beaten at tho end. Ann Pointer faded after being second into the straight. Lucky Love and Charteris Bay were never dangerous. Tho each-way favourite .Tan John was in front for tho greater part of the journey in the Royal Oak Handicap, but he was quickly supplanted by Te Kahu approaching the home turn and was decisively beaten at the end. Te Kahu displayed a fine burst of speed when given his head by J. T. Paul and scored handsomely. Tan John trotted solidly, but he was outclassed. Carl Mack was always handy to the leaders, but he broke badly on a couple of occasions and finished a moderate third, with Young Rodney, who was never dangerous, next. Bronte and Meadow King were well beaten. Swordsman was a late withdrawal as lie did not reach the course in time. Good Finishing Effort

It was with a good finishing effort that Kewpie's Bond got up to win the Onchunga Handicap and return her supporters a solid dividend for a win. She was patiently driven by J. G. Robertson and finished gamely under pressure to beat Compass by half a length, Compass was never further back than second and when lie turned into the straight with a useful lead it appeared as if he would win, but he was outstayed at the end. Blandford paced one of his best races and battled on well for third. Tho each-way favourite Munga Tangi had every chance, but failed to show any dash over the final stages and was beaten into fourth place. Guid Hairst and Kewpie's Crest were handy to the leaders throughout, but could make no impression when the pressure was applied. Imposter was beaten a long way from home. . The each-way favourite Musketeer never flattered the hopes of his supporters in tho Orakei Handicap, although he finished well to be fourth. The winner, Argolis, was patiently driven and easily settled the opposition in the straight, registering one of his best performances. Ranfurly Lass paced solidly throughout and appeared a likely winner at the home turn, but weakened at the end and went under by a neck. Spessiva occupied a prominent position for the greater part of the journey and fought on solidly to be third. King Country had every ehance, but after being among the lenders for over a 111 ilc lie commenced to weaken and was well beaten at tho end. Lucky Love also tired over the concluding after being out in front for a considerable part, and Royal Jewel and Luminate were never dangerous. King's Warrior Unplaced After trailing the pacemakers, Kewpie's King and Gold Dredge, until tho straight was reached, Our_ McKinney unwound a splendid finishing run to win the Massey Memorial Handicap by a narrow margin from Kewpie's King, who again paced solidly and only failed at the end. Nervie's Last was not prominent until the final stages, when he finished soundly to take third place half a length away. Gold Dredge showed considerable dash for about a mile, but weakened into fourth place. Kenworthv performed disappointingly and King's Warrior and Auto Machine never appeared likely,
